AVERSION IN THE TEXTS OF THE SUNNAH: AN APPLIED JURISPRUDENTIAL STUDY
Main Article Content
Abstract
This is a fundamental and applied study that aims to clarify the meanings conveyed by the term "aversion" (karāhah) found in the Sunnah. It addresses the connotations and usages of the word "aversion" in the texts of the Sunnah, as well as its various formulations and styles. Among the main findings of the research are: that the term "aversion" is used in the Sunnah to mean "forbidden" (ḥarām), which is its most common usage, and also to mean "disliked and not pleasing," the performance of which is not sinful. Furthermore, the majority of instances where a Companion narrates aversion from the Prophet (peace be upon him) do not indicate prohibition. This research recommends conducting a study of transcribed jurisprudential terms found in the texts of the Sunnah, with an explanation of their intended meanings.
