TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION IN DEPRESSION: NURSING ROLES IN ADMINISTRATION AND MONITORING

Abstract

Depression remains a leading cause of disability worldwide, with a significant subset of patients exhibiting treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) has emerged as a non-invasive, FDA-approved alternative for treating TRD. This literature review explores the efficacy, safety, and nursing implications of TMS in depression management. Emphasizing the integral role of psychiatric nurses, the review discusses their responsibilities in patient preparation, treatment administration, monitoring, and post-treatment care. The review also addresses challenges in implementation and suggests directions for future research.
